Sewing Patterns - PDF downloads

The patterns displayed here are from my 'Pattern Puzzles' and 'Off-The-Rails' in my commercial studio. I persist in using industry seam allowances and make a point of including this information in each pattern pdf. If you go to my blog and members area you'll find posts for each of these designs covering history, development and pattern alterations. Enjoy :)

Morticia Skirt Sizes 6-22 A0 (download)

The Morticia Skirt has been one of my favourite skirt styles since childhood, and my long time fascination with The Addams Family.  This method of making that style of skirt is simplicity in itself.  The pattern has three different lengths so that you can cut this fantastic skirt for any event.  The waistline is finished with a facing (with fusible interlining), and I’ve included a zip guard for a secure, quality finish.

The fit of the Morticia Skirt is snug, to emphasize that ‘hip hugging’ look so popular with these skirt designs.  I’ve left a minimum of 2cm (3/4”) garment ease on the hip measurement in each size, suited for woven fabric.  There’s a pattern measurement chart below for reference.  Keep in mind that it’s very easy to alter the fit of this skirt if you’re not careful when sewing your seam allowances.  There are eight panels and nine seams.  One millimetre difference in the stitching of the seam allowance will change the fit of the skirt by almost half a size.  In contrast, I’ve been generous with the garment ease on the waistline.  There is around 3-4cm (1 1/4”-1 5/8”) garment ease on the waist and facing fit.  If you have a smaller than average waist, please check your measurements against the pattern before cutting and sewing so you can make the best alteration to suit your body type. Skirt features:

The Morticia Skirt is a multi-panel skirt with body-conscious fit from waist to hip, through to the mid-thigh, before flaring out toward maxi length.  This pattern is designed, sized and cut for woven fabric.  If you fancy tying it in a stretch knit fabric (ponti or double knit would be best), remember to cut a smaller size with negative ease of 4-6cm (1 ⅝"- 2 ⅜").  And instead of adding a facing to the waist, I'd suggest a narrow bind on the waist, with elastic for good recovery.

It's home and industry ready and based on my size chart.  The pattern fitting is for body hugging garment with a minimum of garment ease (2cm/3/4").  When you check the measurements of the pattern, on the size you have selected, you're looking for your body measurement plus 2cm (¾") garment ease.

Where do I start:

The first order of business is to select your closest size and begin the process of fitting this skirt to your own measurements.  The range of sizes on offer relates to my size chart, that's also printed on the pattern.  Cut your closest size in a similar fabric for first fittings and make any necessary adjustments for personal fit. Once you have achieved a good personal fit you will be ready to cut in your final fabric.

This drape skirt is best cut in a double knit PONTI with an elastane content (lycra, spandex) for good recovery.  The seam allowances are 1cm (⅜") on the centre front and back seams with 0.7cm (¼") on the waistline for the self bind and elastic.

It's home and industry ready and based on my size chart.  The pattern fitting is for body hugging garment with a negative ease of 5-10% depending on your fabric choice.  When you check the measurements on the size you have selected you're looking for your body measurements minus 4-10cm approx.

Drape Gather Skirt Sizes 6-22 A0 (download)

The Drape Gather Skirt is a favourite design from my Drape Skirt Patterns workshop and has been proven through the sales and production process in the fashion industry.  Here it has been graded in sizes 6-22 to match the size chart you'll find on this website.

This is one of my favourite drape skirt patterns and I've made it for both summer and winter, with and without lining.  For your first sample, I suggest you try to make an unlined version in a summer, medium weight fabric.  When you have perfected the pattern and fit you'll be able to be more adventurous and try the lined version.

Available here as a PDF download to be printed as 2 x A0 sheets at your local print shop. To keep the price down I recommend that you ask your print shop for a Black and White Plan Print.  Please be sure to ask for the print dialogue box to be set to 'actual size' or 'no scaling' so that your pattern is the correct scale to match my size chart. And for my U.S. followers this A0 format will fit easily on a 36" plotter print.

Skirt features:

I've cut this skirt for a snug fitting to make the most of the gathered drape around the hips.  I've allowed 2cm garment ease on the hip and strongly recommend you use a stretch lining to ensure you can make the most out of the bias cut in wearing.  It has only two main pattern pieces for the shell of the skirt: a centre front panel cut on the straight grain and a side/back panel that's cut on the bias and includes a fishtail flare on the centre back seam.  It has a strap waistband and centre back zip fastening.  A zip guard pattern has been included for the best possible finish in your tailored skirt.

It's home and industry ready and based on my size chart.  The pattern fitting is for body hugging garment with a minimum of garment ease depending on your fabric choice.  When you check the measurements on the size you have selected you're looking for your hip measurement plus 2cm garment ease.

You'll find both fabric usage instructions and garment measurements for all sizes on the actual pattern printout.  Keep an eye out for blog posts in my FREE members area for cutting and sewing instructions.
