The Studio

A hothouse where creativity and careers grow.

Introducing a studio that runs a series of inspirational, industry-respected workshops for fashion designers and educators at all skill levels. It's an environment that's more like a cutting room than a classroom, headed by Studio Director Anita McAdam and a team of industry-experienced professionals.

Anita McAdam has over 25 years fashion industry experience. Her achievements have spanned the fashion spectrum from theatre to commercial design in Asia, The U.K., Europe and Australia. She has lectured at leading colleges, TAFE and international universities. In addition, she presently consults to leading fashion houses at home and abroad.

Studio Farò offers a fresh perspective to developing your craft, enriching you with quality techniques and finishes to give you the edge in the professional environment.

The Cross Tasman Connection

Studio Farò of Sydney, Australia presents a new phase of development in collaboration with Pattern Architects of Auckland, New Zealand. A combination of industry know-how that takes you from Trend Forecast to Cutting Room. Anita McAdam of Studio Farò and Don Hellier of Pattern Architects team up to expand the training available to all practitioners and educators in the fashion industry.

Included in the Studio Farò and Pattern Architects training timetables are regular cross Tasman visits for professional development and the sharing of expertise. Do not miss the opportunity to meet and train with Don Hellier at Studio Farò during one of his annual visits (see *PA times and dates of courses).

Scholarship for Excellence in Pattern Making

Throughout my career I have enjoyed many diverse experiences within the fashion industry in both the UK and Australia. Without exception, I have been amazed at how little certain sectors of the industry value their technical staff, in particular pattern makers. We all know that without good technical skills the most beautiful creations are nothing but scribbles on a page.

To back up this belief in the value of pattern making, in 2006 Studio Faro offered incentives to graduating TAFE students in the form of a scholarship award for ‘Excellence in Pattern Making’. The intention is to allow entry-level pattern making juniors the chance to upgrade their skills during their first year of employment.

The Heads of Department at two of the TAFE institutions in Sydney that specialize in training pattern makers, Macquarie Fields and Ultimo, were approached with the scholarship offer. Both not only accepted the offer but also were enthusiastic about the idea of supporting the on-going skill development of their graduates at the beginning of their careers.

All enquires are dealt with personally by the studio director, Anita McAdam, so do not hesitate to call, email or visit the studio, to talk to Anita and consider the possibilities.
