Introductory Pattern & Design Workshops

The following workshops are suitable for students of all skill levels:

FDPD - Fashion Design and Portfolio Development
2 day workshop - Marrickville Studio

The Fashion Design and Portfolio Development workshop is cross-disciplined and focuses on the process involved in the development of design ideas, technical detail and ultimately, a professional portfolio.

Two to four times a year designers have to produce a range of new ideas. Global trends and iconic designers lead with a breadth of new ideas each season that local designers analyse and utilise to create new product specific to their own products and markets.

The creative process involved in turning global ideas into specific product is a clear and systematic path. The first half of the workshop will focus on pulling together the creative material needed to develop new seasonal product. Using this creative material each student will produce new and exciting design ideas to a tight design brief.

The second half of the workshop will move onto the technical detail required from the designer for the development of prototypes and first samples. Based on Anita's extensive industry experience, training will also include design specifications and range planning.

FI - Fashion Illustration
2 day workshop - Marrickville Studio

Studio

The objective of the fashion illustration workshop is to build the tools and skills required to produce industry quality fashion illustration.

The first day covers the creation of fashion figure templates from fashion photography, working with the nine head-height fashion figure. Each student will develop a number of templates ready fro rendering.

During the second day there are demonstrations and practice sessions in the use of different colour and media to create depth, movement and print effects in the illustration.

And finally demonstrations of simple presentation techniques to achieve a professional look in the fashion portfolio.

Quality equipment and materials are provided by Studio Faro.

ACP - Adjusting Commercial Patterns
2 day workshop - Marrickville Studio

This is an introductory level workshop for adjusting commercial patterns suitable for students and teachers at all skill levels.

The first day of the workshop will focus on an understanding of the body and the best location for pattern alteration between sizes and personal fittings. There will be demonstrations of initial changes that can be made to commercial patterns prior to first make.

The second day of the workshop will cover the actual alteration of commercial patterns to improve fit and balance. Participants are encouraged to bring their own commercial patterns and garments so that all participants may benefit from real life examples.

BPM - Basic Pattern Making
3 day workshop - Marrickville Studio

The Basic Pattern Making workshop allows students to develop their understanding of garment patterns and pattern making ability to enhance their fashion career portfolio.

In this three-day workshop you will learn to adapt industry specific pattern blocks into skirts, trousers, shirts and dresses with an emphasis on technical detail to achieve a professional edge.

Training will cover basic pattern making techniques such as dart transfer, creating fit and flare, adjusting basic blocks and understanding good fit in trousers. Technical detail such as seam allowances, construction techniques and appropriate machinery are covered through each stage of the training.

The Basic Pattern Making workshop is ideal if you work in fashion production, or are an assistant designer. The workshop will help to enhance your understanding of patterns and the sampling process.

CBPD - Corset Block and Pattern Development
2 day workshop - Marrickville Studio

Corset Block and Pattern Development is an introductory level workshop for the development of corset blocks and patterns and is suitable for students and teachers of all skill levels.

The Corset Block and Pattern Development workshop program features the steps necessary to develop a production friendly corset for fashion or teaching.

On the first day the focus is to utilise the basic fitted block in the development of a simple corset style that becomes the basis of all new styles.

On the second day workshop participants will develop a selection of corset shapes suitable for eveningwear and some lingerie applications.

Materials and construction techniques will be discussed in reference to historical and industrial methods.
