Morticia Skirt – Sizes 6-22 (download)

$15.00$60.00

The Morticia Skirt has been one of my favourite skirt styles since childhood, and my long-time fascination with The Addams Family.

This method of making that style of skirt is simplicity in itself.  The pattern has three different lengths so that you can cut this fantastic skirt for any event.  The waistline is finished with a facing (with fusible interlining), and I’ve included a zip guard for a secure, quality finish.

Your download will include 2 PDF documents:

  1. The PDF of the pattern in the print size you have selected. (36″ Plotter Print, A0 2 pages or A4/letter 18 pages).
  2. A separate PDF with all lay-plans, fabric usage chart and detailed photo tutorial of all sewing instructions (16 page PDF).

Description
The Morticia Skirt has been one of my favourite skirt styles since childhood, and my long time fascination with The Addams Family.

The fit of the Morticia Skirt is snug, to emphasise that ‘hip hugging’ look so popular with these skirt designs.  I’ve left a minimum of 2cm (3/4”) garment ease on the hip measurement in each size, suited for woven fabric.  There’s a pattern measurement chart below for reference.  Keep in mind that it’s very easy to alter the fit of this skirt if you’re not careful when sewing your seam allowances.  There are eight panels and nine seams.  One millimetre difference in the stitching of the seam allowance will change the fit of the skirt by almost half a size.  In contrast, I’ve been generous with the garment ease on the waistline.  There is around 3-4cm (1 1/4”-1 5/8”) garment ease on the waist and facing fit.  If you have a smaller than average waist, please check your measurements against the pattern before cutting and sewing so you can make the best alteration to suit your body type.

Skirt features:

The Morticia Skirt is a multi-panel skirt with body-conscious fit from waist to hip, through to the mid-thigh, before flaring out toward maxi length.  This pattern is designed, sized and cut for woven fabric.  If you fancy tying it in a stretch knit fabric (ponti or double knit would be best), remember to cut a smaller size with negative ease of 4-6cm (1 ⅝”- 2 ⅜”).  And instead of adding a facing to the waist, I’d suggest a narrow bind on the waist, with elastic for good recovery.

It’s home and industry ready and based on my size chart.  The pattern fitting is for body hugging garment with a minimum of garment ease (2cm/3/4″).  When you check the measurements of the pattern, on the size you have selected, you’re looking for your body measurement plus 2cm (¾”) garment ease.

Where do I start:

The first order of business is to select your closest size and begin the process of fitting this skirt to your own measurements.  The range of sizes on offer relates to my size chart, that’s also printed on the pattern.  Cut your closest size in a similar fabric for first fittings and make any necessary adjustments for personal fit. Once you have achieved a good personal fit you will be ready to cut in your final fabric.
