Pattern Puzzle - Cowl Tee

Monday, April 06, 2015
It never ceases to amaze me how often I am drawn to this particular style of cowl drape.  You will find many examples in the #PatternPuzzles that have been presented here over the past few years.  This puzzle starts with the simplest of shapes and becomes an elegant tunic top. Keep Reading...

Pattern Insights - Twist Tee

Monday, March 30, 2015
The #PatternPuzzle was quite a hit with our Facebook fans on Saturday.  In many ways a straightforward pattern that yields fab results.  Use any loose-fit tee shirt pattern or alter my knit block to make this fashion-forward Twist Tee.  If you'd like to learn my method for creating Twist Drape Patterns I have a detailed worksheet for making Jersey Twist Patterns.  For just a few dollars you'll get the same training you'd get if you came to the workshop in my studio.

Monday, December 15, 2014

We have had a good run lately with Cowl Drape styles and this week is no exception with the Cowl Back Tee.  Last week was the Vivienne Drape Dress featuring a Cowl Drape on the neckline and in the skirt.  And Two weeks ago a reworking of The Drape Shift in a woven fabric for The Drape Shift - Woven.  You might say we are coming at the #CowlDrape thing from all directions.

Pattern Puzzle - Vivienne Drape Dress

Monday, December 08, 2014

This weeks design is a homage to one of my favourite designers, Vivienne Westwood. The understated neckline drape and off centre skirt drape are characteristic of her wonderful draped dresses.  Addendum March 2016 - I've just turned this #PatternPuzzle favourite into a pattern making workshop -  #InAnAvo The Vivienne Drape Dress.  Checkout other #InAnAvo workshops on offer.

Green Velvet Drape - A homage to Ceil Chapman 1950

Over a year ago I found the image of this amazing vintage dress on Pinterest, compliments of Mill Street Vintage.  Unfortunately (for us) it has been sold and is no longer in their shop.  So I made up the back view to hopefully balance with the wonderful design detail on the front.Vintage Drape Sewing Pattern

So many fans dropped by on Saturday to work on our #PatternPuzzle, the conversation went on for most of the day.  And it seems it is the anonymous pattern shapes that cause the greatest dilemma.  After all they could be almost anything. The Dolman Coat Keep Reading...

Pattern Puzzle - Jersey Twist Dress

Monday, March 17, 2014
There was great conversation around the #PatternPuzzle last Saturday on our FB page.  The final but essential clue of a CF twist was offered by Renee Bock to complete the puzzle.  This style is in many ways very similar to previous puzzles featuring twists. Keep Reading...

Pattern Puzzle - Hip Twist Top

Monday, October 14, 2013

You don't need to be a genius to see I am still obsessed by twist patterns.  They certainly suit the whole idea behind my #PatternPuzzles.  This type of jersey twist is not so unusual in the fashion ranges at the moment.  The small and unusual detail of placing the twist off centre is very appealing, if not a little clever.Hip Twist Top Keep Reading...

SEWING PATTERNS

All my sewing patterns.
These are the first of my sewing patterns as PDF downloads for you to buy and sew.  The more I sell the more time I have to make new ones.  So if you fancy supporting the work I do here on the well-suited blog, this is your opportunity.  These patterns are based on my size chart listed here on the website.

ALL MY GARMENT BLOCKS

All my garment blocks.
Garment blocks are the basic template we use to make fashion patterns.  They are not patterns in themselves as they have no design detail.  My garment blocks also don't have any seam allowances as they are never sewn together once the fit is perfected.  If you look at any of my Pattern Puzzle posts you'll see that I usually start with a block then modify to achieve my new design idea.  These garment blocks are also based on my size chart as required for the mass production of fashion clothing.

WORKSHEETS - PDF DOWNLOADS

My fashion design, illustration and pattern making worksheets and instructions are based on the teaching methods and blocks used at Studio Faro in my workshops & workbooks.  Subscribe to receive email updates.
