The Retro Wrap is a version of a fascinating vintage sewing pattern that has been the subject of much sewing chat online. I’ve sampled and altered this particular idea to perfect the make and fit to suit today’s fabrics and lifestyle.
The fit and shape of the garment has a strong retro vibe, flattering the waist and creating drape around the neckline as you tighten the wrap ties. Typical of the era it has a three-quarter sleeve that can be lengthened if desired.
The sample featured in the attached images is the medium size displayed on a size 12 workroom dummy. It’s equivalent to Size 12 on my
Size Chart listed here on the website.
The most important aspect of this sewing pattern is that to be successful it must be cut in two-way (four-way stretch in the US) stretch knit. The sewing pattern consists of two pieces only, the front, back and sleeve as one piece and a long sash. It’s a quick and easy make using stretch stitches for the seams and hems.
You wrap the top across the front and around the back, returning to the front to tie a generous bow. The length of the waist tie is generous and may need to be altered according to the width of your fabric. All that is important is that you maintain the notches on the waist tie so they can match back the the waistline of the top pattern.
