The Jersey Twist Pattern Puzzle has to be one of the most popular posts on my website. It started life as a
‘Pattern Puzzle’ on Saturday mornings on Facebook. Then became both a
detailed worksheet available on-line and a popular afternoon workshop in my studio. Now finally it is a PDF Sewing Pattern available to everyone worldwide.
This sewing pattern is based on my knit block and is a close fit with
negative ease. The twist top design depends on a close fit to make the drape of the twist work well.
The fabric needed for this sewing pattern is a two-way (four-way US) stretch jersey with a reasonable (4-8%) elastane content.
Both Single and Double Twist fronts are included in this download. See the sewing instructions to be sure of the correct lay plan you need to cut your Jersey Twist Top.
Your download will include:
- The PDF sewing pattern in your preferred print format – A0 (2 pages), A4/letter (46 pages) or 36″ Plotter print (2.4m).
- A DF download (22 pages) with a size chart, fabric usage chart, lay-plans and sewing instructions.
- An added bonus PDF (5 pages) with instructions to alter your sleeve pattern for various lengths.
- Another PDF (9 pages) will be included with detailed instructions for a Full Bust Adjustment (FBA) to this specific sewing pattern.
My PDF block and pattern downloads can be printed as A0 or 36” plotter print at your local print shop or as A4/letter at home. Please be sure when you go to the print shop or print at home that you select for printing at ‘actual size’ with ‘no scaling’, or at 100%.
This pattern is available for personal and home use as well as business and educational. Use the drop down menu to make your selection.
Single Twist
There are two different ways to approach cutting the Single Jersey Twist Top.
- The first is to use a double knit fabric that looks the same on both sides. When you cut a single layer and twist the front piece once only the fabric on both sides of the front should look the same.
- The second method is to Cut 1 Pair of the front pattern piece with fabric at right sides together. Then you’ll stitch both sides of the neckline and turn both pieces of fabric right sides out. This is the method you need if your knit fabric is not the same on the front and back sides.
Double Twist
There is only one way to work with the Double Jersey Twist Top. Because the front is twisted twice you will always end up with the right side of the fabric facing the right way on the outside of the garment.
This PDF pattren comes with a full length sleeve so you can alter it to be either three-quarter length or short sleeve.
When you’re ready to cut your pattern you’ll see that in most cases you’re after a single layer cut. So pay attention to he notes that go with each of the lay-plans in the notes included with the sewing pattern. Dark shading indicates the wrong side of the fabric and the light shading on some pattern pieces indicates a pattern piece that has been flipped to cut 1 pair.
