Elegant simplicity is something I really adore in the design and construction of my own clothing.

For the Dior Dress it all began when I came across a fabulous Dior Dress from 2012, and decided it was the perfect idea for a classic dress design.  Imagine a stretch bodice, that fits easily and is very comfortable to wear.  Then add a very special skirt, using a signature fabric print.  There’s no zip or buttonholes to deal with and if you’re careful about your choice of print fabric, probably no ironing involved either.  I’ve put all this detail together in a blog post for your information:  About My Dior Dress

To make this dress you’ll need both woven and knit fabric that works well together.  Your knit will also need to have an elastane content for good recovery on the waist seam.  I use a little light weight elastic on that seam to make sure it stay strong for longer wearing.  For the woven half circle skirt I have more often used patchwork fabric as I love the huge variety of prints and the fabulous quality of the cotton, built to last many washes.  For the half skirt lining I’ve used the skirt pattern and simply cut it a little shorter by 2.5cm (1″).

The fit of the knit bodice is not tight or body conscious.  It has a boat neckline and three-quarter sleeve that can be easily altered to full length or half sleeve using these instructions.  I have deliberately made the waist looser for comfort and always wear a wide feature belt with all my dresses.
