Draped Wrap Dress

Draped Wrap Dress

Here is the design solution and details behind the Saturday morning Pattern Puzzle post.  I’ve always had an absolute fascination with complex pattern making.  This beginning of a series of Pattern Puzzles is my opportunity to drive straight in and challenge myself and my skill level.
The first puzzle is a sleeveless summer frock with a ruched wrap bodice and full skirt.  The pattern has been developed on my fitted dress block that is available as a PDF download.  Womens Fitted Block Sizes 6-16
These are the pattern pieces (not including the bind patterns we would need for the armhole and neckline).  All the front bodice darting has been transferred into the ruching on the left side seam of the wrap.  The front underwrap still has the darting in the usual positions – this will barely show in this design, but will hold the front of the dress in shape.  Both the front and back skirt areas have been increased to achieve a full skirt (50’s style).
This image represents the lay-plan if this dress were cut on a stripe (warp) fabric.
These images represent the lay-plan if we decided to cut this dress on a border print.  In this case, the grainline will go across (weft) the fabric, selvedge to selvedge.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave your comments below.  I’m always happy to help.
Enjoy!
