Triangle Drape Dress

It is the simplest of shapes and elegant to boot, the Triangle Drape Dress #PatternPuzzle was solved in an instant by our resident pattern champ Mioara.  You may remember her recent contribution to our weekly fun – a very clever #PatternPuzzle.  Our choice this week was inspired by Meegan Williams sending us a link to her favourite dress.  And she was right, it is not a complicated style.  Made in a lightweight silk/rayon jersey knit, the kimono style drapes beautifully through the side seam area as it collapses over the hip and hugs the thighs.

You can start this pattern plan using my knit block or any basic knit pattern with a close or crew neckline.

1. You really only need the neckline and shoulder line to draft this style.
2. Use the back neckline as it is and change the front to a V neckline of your choice.
3. When extending the shoulder line make sure it is lifted 5mm above the shoulder point.  Extend to elbow level from shoulder point (approx. 35cm).
4. Decide front length of dress – working just past the knee (my choice) would be approx. 110cm from high neck point.
5. Taper the side seams of your knit block by 2-3cm.
6. Join the hem to the extended shoulder line.
7. Place the first shoulder line notch at about 8-9cm, leave space for the shoulder to peep out, then join again for about 4-5cm.  Leave the rest open for the sleeve opening.

 Trace the front and back dress, joining them at the side seam.  This pattern makes a very simple shape much like a triangle. The centre front and back are seamed and the overarm seam is left open at shoulder and the sleeve opening.
