This post has been curated to bring the focus to my garment blocks now available on the website. They are the same blocks I use in my pattern puzzles and the same basic blocks that are the foundation of commercial pattern making. The first block for the spotlight is my Knit Block.
This is one of my most popular blog posts and as a result, it’s now a really popular worksheet. This is the same material I use for teaching this very special pattern making move.
What I most like about this particular design is the delightful distraction created by the diagonal drape across the front of the dress. The effect will be flattering to all body types. It starts with my knit block and you’ll end up with two front patterns and one back pattern to achieve the layered effect.

So much fun and quite a lot of fabric required for this elegant single twist top. Inspired by that clever designer, Issey Miyake, this patternmaking post also includes instructions for both cowl drape and twist drape in the one pattern.
This asymmetric design has proved popular with many fans making their own patterns and samples and sharing. You can also make this design with any well-fitted, tee-shirt pattern.

This little beauty is one of my earliest pattern puzzle posts and it’s a bit of a challenge in the pattern making area. Getting the right fabric is crucial to the success of this pattern. You can also move the cowl emphasis around a little in the pattern making to perfect the kind of fit you’re after.
The Double Drape Maxi is a dozzie of a pattern with loads of gathered drape in the front and cowl drape hood with interesting seam detail. Use a light weight knit for this design so you don’t get too much bulk over the tummy area.
Be sure to mix up your prints and fabrics to get the best out of this Dior inspired design. The underdress is strapless in this post example but it’s totally fine to add straps if that suits you better.
