Triple Twist Jersey Dress

Triple Twist Jersey Dress

Here we have another re-issue of my very early Pattern Puzzle posts. I’ve up-dated the images and improved the instructions.  I’m really enjoyed the regular Saturday morning Pattern Puzzles on my facebook page and hope to return to them sometime soon.  Here is the sketch, pattern plan and pattern pieces for the front of the Triple Twist Jersey dress.  Please note this style only works with my knit block and two-way stretch jersey fabric.

I’ve drawn up my pattern plan using my knit block and placing in the design lines in the most convenient places. This design is revealing in many ways so the location of the twist and fabric is very important. Also note the overlap of each of the twist sections at the side seam. I believe this should be at least 6cm because it will be under much stress in the final wearing of this garment.

The green areas (in the diagram below) are where the pattern has been slashed and opened up to include extra fabric for the twist and drape.  The amount of fabric you add will vary according to the fabric you are using and size of the dress.  Light fabrics will require more fabric added and heavier fabrics will require less.  If you’re working in to a larger size then I suggest you consider adding more fabric n these areas to maintain the proportion in the garment.
If you’d like to learn my method for creating Twist Drape Patterns I have a detailed worksheet for making Jersey Twist Patterns.  For just a few dollars you’ll get the same training you’d get if you came to the workshop in my studio.

The beauty of this style is that you get to work with single and double twists all in the one pattern.  However this pattern does come with a warning – it is not for the faint hearted as there is a lot of exposed skin!
